Short Term Missions
Houses of Hope offers a unique short-term missions opportunity to our Guatemala location. Teams of volunteers, are given the chance to work on site with our HOHI children and families. They do various projects around the campus that help provide more houses and maintain the existing grounds. We also believe that it is important to go out into the community and serve others. The volunteers are escorted into the city and work with various churches doing ministry through any means that they have brought with them. Some of these include drama, singing, teaching, etc. In an effort to minister personally to the people of Guatemala, a few members of the team are given the opportunity to share their personal story. Another way that the teams get to reach the community is through our connections with the local government orphanages. They are sent in to simply love on the kids by singing songs, playing games, and most importantly, spending time with them.
Part of the experience that volunteer teams are given is to hike to a church in the mountains. They are sent to different villages where they minister to people through service projects, house-to-house ministry, street evangelism, and church services. Teams spend the night up in the villages and in the morning they hike back down the mountain. Although ministering to the Guatemalan people is the main goal, teams are taken to the historic city of Antigua on the last day of their trip where they can shop and see the sites. We believe that after all of their hard work and the experience in Zacapa it is important for our teams to enjoy the beautiful city.
